Saturday, May 11th was Portland’s annual Fashion Forward show. This year 9 designers were showcased in a sell-out event, special thanks for Portland Sewing’s director, Sharon Blair, and the event producer, Elizabeth Mollo.
A heartfelt congratulations is extended to all the designers who participated in this first-in-a-lifetime event. Fashion Forward is much more than a fun night with beautiful models and interesting apparel. It’s an intensive program through Portland Sewing taking pioneer lines through an educational hurricane and preparing novice designers with industry level knowledge on all facets of the business. We’ve shared many laughs, ideas, and maybe a frustration or two over those pesky overlock machines…
Continued BIG THANKS to the small village who made this combined dream a reality. Our beautiful models who literally make us look good and smile through accidental pin-pricks and hours of hair braiding. DJ Gregarious who took obscure music hailed as far as China and spun it as smooth as a train of thought. Brent and OSI photography who make taking an amazing picture look as simple as a click of a button. Beau Monde for their expert hair and makeup team who patiently allowed me to hem and haw over every shade of pink lipstick they had for just the right hue. Countless volunteers including my very sweet intern, Meesha. Without these folks we could never dress models, move furniture, greet guests, pour drinks, or make Christmas lights into a twinkling starry sky.
Thank you to all the media and buyers who took a Saturday night away from their friends and families to spend with our friends and families. Every introduction and encouraging word was a meaningful and memorable introduction into this business.
So if you weren’t there, what did you miss? Adelheid Bergin was first in the lineup with 5 complete looks from the 2013 A/W collection titled “Bavarian Twilight.” The collection featured primarily dresses with multiple sleeve variations on a fitted silhouette. The garments were designed to take a woman from day to evening — something appropriate for the office and stylish enough for drinks and dinner after. Subtle details included a zip shoulder pocket, skirt pleats radiating across a side seam, and side panels separating batwing sleeves. Fabrics included stretch cotton sateen and easy care ponte knits in multiple color variations.
All in all, the show was a success, sparking interest from multiple Portland boutiques.
